This is Me

My name is Sean Santiago and I’m a Cinema, Television, and Media Production major at Kutztown University. In my free time I go rock climbing, watch movies, play numerous recreational sports, and box. I hope one day to travel to Bali, Indonesia and take in the marvel it is. In my past experience with research I’ve done standardization’s and deep analyses with various articles. My most prominent work came from John Tierneys “The Reign of Recycling.” It was a group project, but we broke the article down piece by piece to figure out it was an inaccurate, misleading, trashcan of a paper. Which made me realize… a lot of information that isn’t from a 1st hand source is manipulated in some way.

Losing Earth 1

After reading the prologue and part one of “Losing Earth” I’m curious about the circumstances that come next. I can’t imagine what Rafe was going through trying to save the world from climate change. As we are still facing these problems today since we are still burning fossil fuels. It’s disgusting to see how greedy and small minded the people in office are. They didn’t want to change there ways because it wasn’t going to affect them now. They also didn’t want to stop because they wouldn’t make as much money. It didn’t matter how much research and facts Hansen, Rafe, or Macdonald had. The only way for people in power to listen was apply pressure and bring it to the media…which is what happened.

Losing Earth 2

After reading the 2nd part of “Losing Earth” and the Epilogue, I’ve noticed some major turning points in this overall story. Starting off in section 3 when Rafe and the World Resources Institute met with the Senator of Rhode Island John Chafee. They persuaded him on the 2 problems of the ozone and climate change. It made headline news and launched another war to fight climate change. Another turning point is when Jim Hansen gave his Speech in Washington that made national news. It opened the world’s eyes with science and our home as a whole. There were 32 climate bills introduced to congress by the end of the year with other nations looking to fight carbon emissions. All this stemming from Hansen’s speech, all those strenuous hours of work paying off for Hansen. Finally, the biggest turning point comes when the environmental activists leave the room for only the environmental ministers to discuss the climate change treaty at the 1st major diplomatic meeting for climate change in Noordwijk. Everything was going fantastic as if carbon emissions could decrease 20% by 2000;saving the world. Hours later we find out about the sad death for climate change because the U.S “fucked it up.”
